Any questions
It’s an everyday irritation. You call a customer service line, and are greeted by a robotic voice, that asks you to press 1 for this 2 for that. You are placed on hold and played terrible music. And then, when at last you get to speak to a human being, you discover that they are reciting a script, and you have to answer security questions. What is your mother’s maiden name? And your pet’s favourite hobby? Yesterday I had to make one of those calls, and Kay is the account holder, which caused all kinds of grief.
The operator asked, ‘Is your wife there with you Mr. Lucas?’
'Yes, she is’, I replied. And then, incredibly, I was asked one of the strangest questions of my life.
‘And you are your wife's husband, are you?’
'Er, yes’, I mumbled, ‘that's why she's called my wife'.
As we pause for a moment to consider Gideon’s faith, notice it was a faith that ignited many questions - and some of them were faintly ridiculous. Let’s be glad that God listens to what must seem ridiculous questions all the time. He doesn’t reject those who ask them, but in Gideon’s case, used him mightily.
And true faith is not about having all the answers, but trusting in character of the one who does.
